THE SEARCH GOES GLOBAL: Zo Memes Overwhelm the Internet as Champion Remains Unlocated

UNDISCLOSED LOCATION — What began as a routine inability to reach the defending champion has become something the Random Cup Press Office is no longer equipped to manage.

In the days since a single blurred photograph surfaced, the search for Michael "Zo" Tozzolo has spilled well beyond the Championship and onto the open internet, where it has, by every available measure, gotten completely out of control. Traffic has surged. Servers have buckled. The Press Office has stopped attempting to count the memes.

Chief among them is "Where's WalZo?" — elaborate illustrated crowd scenes in which readers are invited to locate a bespectacled figure in a knit cap. The Press Office notes that in several versions he does not appear at all, a detail it has described as "thematically appropriate."

Images have also circulated depicting the champion's likeness on a milk carton. The Press Office wishes to state clearly that it did not authorize, produce, or distribute this material, and that it has been unable to determine who did. Inquiries continue.

Requests for comment have gone unanswered. Zo has said nothing. More conspicuously, neither has the Random Cup Players Security and Safety Committee — a body whose entire function is the location and wellbeing of competitors, and which has now maintained silence for the duration of the largest manhunt in Championship history.

The Press Office wishes to observe that the situation has produced an outcome precisely opposite to the one intended. A champion who withdrew from public life to escape excessive attention has instead become the most-searched figure in the history of this event. Where once a small number of admirers knew exactly where he was, millions now do not — and every one of them is looking.

The Championship approaches. The defending champion's status remains unconfirmed. This remains a developing story.
