The Random Cup Records Department notes the subject has been present since the beginning, has chaired more committees than he has entered tournaments, and remains the only founding-era figure without a jacket. The Department considers this an oversight of history, not of talent.
WHAT ARE THE SHARPS SAYING…..
(+650) The Godfather returns for his 75th trip around the sun, celebrating his birthday on the Fourth of July in the only place that seems fitting... the Random Cup. Long before supporter shares, live leaderboards, and betting odds, there was Kenny Mac securing houses, negotiating golf courses, and quietly building the tournament we all know today.
This year, the old man outdid himself. As Course Selection Committee Chairman, Kenny delivered a 2026 slate the Press Office is calling a "collection of greats" — Talamore, both Pinehurst tracks, and Mid South — the finest rotation in Championship history. Sources say he worked harder than a one-armed wallpaper hanger to lock it down, and that at least one of the venues required a deal so favorable the Committee suspects the Devil himself was across the table. Whatever it cost, Kenny paid it, and the field reaps the reward.
Now for the poetry: the man who built the schedule gets to play it. The old man still knows every bounce, every shortcut, and probably somebody working in each of the four pro shops. The question has never been whether Kenny can play — it's whether the younger crowd can keep up with him for three straight days. And if all that good karma finally lands where it belongs, there may not be a more popular champion in Random Cup history.
THE OFFICIAL FILE
Kenny McDonald — "The Old Man"
Submitted to the Random Cup Press Office. The subject requested to review these annotations prior to publication. The request was denied by the Committee, which the subject also chairs.
OCCUPATION (AS DECLARED)
Marriage Counselor
The Committee declines to comment on the qualifications, and notes only that the field could likely use one.
KNOWN HABITAT
Pinehurst No. 6
The one competitor who answered this question by naming a golf course. The Committee expected nothing less.
SELF-ASSESSMENT OF GAME
"Not sure."
The shortest self-assessment received, and, in the Committee's view, among the most dangerous. A man who has seen every course, chaired every committee, and studied this field for years may know more than he lets on.
NON-CONFORMING BAG CONTENTS
Fireball
The Beverage Committee has reviewed this disclosure and elected to look the other way, as it always has.
THE RECORD, CORRECTED
Widely believed: that he is an old man.
Stated for the record: he is not.
The Committee has recorded the denial. The Committee has also seen his birth certificate. It considers the matter closed out of respect.
SUNDAY THREAT ASSESSMENT
Least wants to see one shot ahead: Oz McMahon
The third competitor to name Oz. The Rankings Department notes the field's hottest player is now feared even by the man who built the golf courses he's playing.
CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK PROTOCOL
"Taking care of my meetings."
The nature of these meetings was not specified. The Committee did not ask. Some things are chaired, not questioned.
STATED LEGACY OBJECTIVE
"The courses we played."
The only competitor whose legacy answer was about the tournament rather than himself — fitting, from the man who selected this year's slate. He has given the Random Cup nearly everything. The one thing it has never given back is a jacket.
FILE STATUS: OPEN — CHAIRMAN'S PRIVILEGE ACKNOWLEDGED
What’s in the bag?
Safety first! The Old Man is seen here leading The Random Cup participant in how to prepare for Fat Ben’s hot tub challenge safety course.
