HANDICAPS LOCKED: Committee Seals Tournament Strokes Ahead of Random Cup XIV

PINEHURST, N.C. — The Random Cup Handicap Committee announced today that all tournament handicaps have been officially locked, and that stroke allocations for Random Cup XIV are now final, sealed, and beyond appeal.

The action closes a submission window the Committee described as "eventful." In the weeks preceding the deadline, officials noted a pronounced uptick in scores posted across the field — a development the Handicap Committee has characterized as "statistically remarkable," "difficult to explain through improvement alone," and "entirely within the rules as written."

"Every competitor is entitled to post every round," a spokesperson said. "We simply observe that a great many rounds were posted, by a great many competitors, in a very short period of time, and that nearly all of them went the same direction." Asked whether the Committee suspected manipulation, the spokesperson replied that the Committee suspects nothing and assumes the worst, and that these positions are not in conflict.

Strokes are now locked and will not be revisited. The Committee will not entertain appeals, recalculations, medical exemptions, claims of recent injury, references to a "bad stretch," or any argument beginning with the phrase "my index doesn't reflect." Competitors who believe their allocation is unjust are invited to prove it on the golf course.

The Committee further reminds the field that strokes are given, not earned, and that no competitor in Championship history has ever described his own allocation as generous.

The numbers are set. The excuses have been retired with them. Play begins in days.
