COMMITTEE UNVEILS OFFICIAL RANDOM CUP ANTHEM; PROTOCOL ISSUED FOR ITS PLAYING
PINEHURST, N.C. — The Random Cup has an anthem.
Following a commissioning process the Committee describes as "exhaustive" and declines to describe further, the Championship today unveiled its Official Anthem — a work the Press Office is calling world-class, era-defining, and long overdue for an event of this stature. The Random Cup Media Department, now a staff of two, has claimed full credit and has been asked twice to stop.
With the anthem comes protocol. Effective immediately, the Committee has established that the Anthem shall be played at the first tee each morning of Championship week, and again at the presentation of the trophy on Saturday. When it plays, standing is required. Hats will be removed. Conversation will cease. Competitors found still talking during the second chorus will be noted, and the note will be kept.
"It is not a song," a spokesperson clarified. "It is the Anthem." Pressed on the distinction, the spokesperson repeated the sentence at greater volume and took no further questions.
The Anthem is designated official in perpetuity and may not be altered, abridged, or performed at a lower volume than the one intended. The Committee thanks the public in advance for its compliance, and reminds all in attendance that the words are provided for a reason.
